The Experience
The estate has wonderful views and you’re welcome to wander (except for a small area around the Earl’s home) so bring a picnic blanket and settle yourselves under the trees to enjoy the birds, wildlife and profound peace of the countryside. The Tack Room, although it has two bedrooms, is more suited to a couple or three people as it’s smaller, but still very cosy, with thick walls and a wood-burner for chilly evenings. The Scullery has a larger living space, also with a wood-burner, and both have a country style with antiques.
Quarry tiled kitchens have all the kit – The Scullery with a warming Aga, The Tack Room with a two-ring induction hob and a combi-microwave oven, so not for elaborate cooks. You’re left a welcome hamper of local milk, eggs, jam, butter, cheese and bread along with basics in the cupboards. You can also buy fruit, vegetables and honey from the walled garden.
The tiny village of Wimborne St Giles is nearby.

Location
The neighbourhood
Wimborne Minster is eight miles, an enchanting market town which is characterful and steeped in history, and it is well worth exploring the Minster itself. Cranborne Garden Centre has a good café, a great shop to browse and lovely gardens. There are lots of farm shops nearby, the Remedy Oak golf course and the Dorset Heavy Horse centre in Verwood, seven miles. Salisbury is 16 miles, Southampton 32.
Local points of interest from Olivia O'Sullivan
- Stunning walks either within the estate parklands or head off into the AONB hills of Cranborne Chase.
- Fantastic bluebell woods near tiny Pamphill which lies within the National Trust Kingston Lacey estate which also offers autumn, winter and springtime trails and a circuit around the ironage Badbury Rings. The house is well worth a visit but you may need to book a slot!
- Wimborne is a pretty market town offering its Tivoli Theatre for plays and cinema, its vibrant market and plenty of lovely restaurants such as The Wimborne Pig with home-produced pork and local produce. Plenty of local pubs to choose from too.
- There are various nearby vineyards and one of note is English Oak Vineyard which offers tours and tastings of its award-winning wines.
- A little further down the road takes you to the lovely coastline with Swanage, Studland Beach and Nature Reserve and many more.
- Knoll Gardens for plants, Walford Mill Crafts for arts and crafts, Wimborne model town and the museum are among the many places to visit around and about.

Introducing
Olivia O'Sullivan
The estate is owned by the 12th Earl of Shaftesbury. Lord and Lady Shaftesbury live in the main house on the estate and they have restored St Giles back into a family home. Their ethos is simply to share the magic of St Giles with others. Your main contact is the Head of Hospitality and Events, Olivia.
Such a lovely tranquil place, unusual old stableyard cottages on a beautifully kept country estate in a lovely part of Dorset. Genuinely a place to get away from it all and recharge just by exploring the parkland. But, still some great market towns within an easy drive and local produce through farm shops and restaurants.Yum!
