The Experience
A marvellous spot to bring children; you’ll find a cot, stairgate, games and books, a heated swimming pool, a big communal garden for romping and a very pleasant pub to which you have your own gate. Here you’ll find a further 5 acres, a play bus and good food. Evenings having a barbecue on your private patio will be lovely, or in winter you’ll be cosy round the wood-burner in the sitting room.
Bedrooms continue the theme of pastel shades with a nod to wildlife in the artwork and have nice views; the shared shower room is gleaming. There’s room for everyone to help in the well-equipped kitchen and you’ll find all the basics for cooking along with eggs, homemade cake, milk, bread and butter. You eat at a round table in the sitting room.
There are marked walks straight from the back door and you’ll find details in an information pack. Children will adore petting the pygmy goats in the pub garden.

Poacher's Cottage is a beautiful place to stay. The cottage was immaculate and spotlessly clean with everything that you would need for a stay away from home. The gardens are beautiful and in a very peaceful setting. We went to the pub a couple of minutes' walk away one evening which serves lovely food and is very convenient to the cottage. Adele and Nigel were really friendly and welcoming and left us eggs, milk, butter, bread and a homemade cake which was really appreciated. Thank you both very much for a lovely stay and hope to come back soon!

We had a wonderful time here! The cottage was perfect for what we needed and the hosts were outstanding with lots of little extras that really made this stay special. The garden was brilliant for our Easter egg trail and the secret gate to the local pub was fab. We would(and have) recommend this for a wonderful little getaway for a family!

Poacher's Cottage is an ideal place to relax and unwind. It is in a peaceful location but close enough to many points of interest in beautiful Dorset. Both the cottage and garden are very well looked after with everything you need for a comfortable stay. We enjoyed walking in the garden and the local village walk. Adele and Nigel are very welcoming and Adele made us a very delicious lemon drizzle cake. We would love to come again.

Poachers cottage is warm, super cosy and spotlessly clean, equipped with everything you could possibly need for a really comfortable and relaxing stay. Our children loved the twin room and basket of toys kindly supplied by Adele as well as the fantastic garden, climbing frame and swings. We enjoyed relaxing on the comfortable sofas by the log burner in the evenings. Thank you for a fantastic few days, we will definitely be back!!

Location
The neighbourhood
It's a wonderfully peaceful place. As well as the pub there is a local store and post office in the village. At the next village you can visit the famous Cerne Abbas giant. Sherborne and Dorchester are both about 10 miles away for big shops and a huge choice of restaurants. Sherborne has market days on Thursdays and Saturdays and glorious West Bay beach is a 40-minute drive for a day out at the seaside.
Local points of interest from Adele Murray
- Dorchester – the county town. Visit the Roman Town House and Amphitheatre and also stand in the dock where the Martyrs stood trial.
- Sherborne – a beautiful and historic market town, home to Sherborne Abbey, Castle (the former home of Sir Walter Raleigh) and Gardens. The town itself has a wide range of individually owned shops, boutiques and antique shops to while away the afternoon.
- Milton Abbas – the epitome of a Dorset village, dozens of beautiful thatched cob cottages lining each side of the only road in and out of the village, complete with pub and tea rooms serving delicious food. The Abbey church close by is also open to the public.
- Weymouth – The classic English seaside resort and a favourite bathing place of George III. Sandy beaches with brightly coloured beach huts, punch and judy and donkey rides, sit comfortably alongside a back drop of independent shops, cafés and restaurants.
- Wareham – sits on the banks of the River Frome and is a saxon walled town. A great place to wander around with various unique shops and cafes. Hire a boat or kayak or for the less energetic board a river cruise to while away an hour or two.
- Jurassic Coast – a World Heritage site, stretching from Studland Bay, on the southern shore of Poole Harbour, to Exmouth in East Devon. The Dorset coast incorporates just over 80 miles of the South West Coast Path along this stretch.

Introducing
Adele Murray
Nigel and Adele love living in such a pretty part of Dorset. Having spent 10 years owning a large holiday cottage business in Cornwall, they know exactly what guests are looking for. They do everything they can to help you relax, feel at home and make wonderful holiday memories. They are on hand to give advice but are utterly unobtrusive. Adele bakes delicious cakes.
Poachers Cottage in Buckland Newton is an absolute gem. One of four it is nestled in the beautiful Dorset countryside. The former farm workers cottage is marvellous, so comfortable & perfect for our stay. Beautifully decorated with everything a guest could possibly want for a first class stay away from home. The cottage is surrounded by the most fabulous gardens. They are stunning covering a large area with many surprises around every corner. A gardeners delight! Adele & Nigel are very welcoming, kind & thoughtful. We will definitely return in the future. Thank you so much.
