The Experience
Drive down narrow lanes with tall hedges to this little hamlet and an old stone family house filled with photos, pictures, loads of books, a couple of friendly dogs and memorabilia. And a Tesla charger, although check the details before you stay.
Bedrooms feel very private – you pretty much have your own wing of the house and you can come and go as you please. Breakfast will include home-laid eggs, bacon and sausages from a local farm, maybe some mushrooms foraged by Ashley. He loves cooking and will give you supper too if he has enough notice, so do ask.
Walk along footpaths across Eggardon Hill into Askerswell and the Spyway Inn for good pub grub in about 40 minutes, or just over an hour to Three Horseshoes Inn at Powerstock. Beachcombers and fossil hunters can drive to Lyme in 30 minutes.

West Compton, like it's owner, is a one off ! The house with its courtyard is reminiscent of a French manoir, beautiful and full of character and interest. On a sunny day having breakfast al fresco by the trickling Koi ponds you could be in the South of France. The red 'balcony room', is spacious, comfortable and quiet. Ashley and Amanda are hospitable and generous hosts and can point you in the right direction for places to visit and eat. Ashley serves up a mean breakfast - and some hilarious stories ! We enjoyed every moment of our stay with them and have every intention of returning.

Ashley made us feel very welcome in his lovely home, our room was very beautifully decorated and furnished with antiques, and fresh flowers. Delicious breakfasts were served outside by the fish pools when weather permitted. Ashley and Amanda were helpful in advising on where to eat and places to visit. There is plenty to do in the area, apart from the beaches we enjoyed Athelhampton and Little Bredy gardens; Hardy's Cottages and the Etches Museum at Kimmeridge. Particularly good for guests with dogs, ours loved it and were made welcome. A very relaxing stay away from the crowds!

Fantastic stay at Ashley and Amanda's place. We had the balcony room and loved the huge comfy bed, ensuite bathroom and sitting out on the balcony in the sunny weather. Breakfast was fresh and plentiful, with lots of different options; we particularly enjoyed a breakfast outside in the sunshine next to the Koi pond. We also loved being welcomed by resident Jack Russells Tipple and Trubble! Amanda and Ashley gave us some great recommendations for local places to eat and overall couldn't have been more helpful. We had a lovely relaxing week and hope to be back again in the future!

What a fantastic find steeped in the Dorset countryside. Ashley and Amanda are so welcoming and Ashley's breakfasts are second to none (I was so lucky to be staying in the fig season to add to the selection available!!) Balcony room was excellent. What a fabulous 2 night break in the beautiful rose room! The bed is so comfortable and I slept like a log. A fantastic shower in the bathroom too! The location is so quiet and peaceful. Truly relaxing. Ashley’s breakfast is superb - delicious fruit salad, granola, delicious honey, home made bread toasted with a perfect poached egg (laid by his chickens), locally sourced bacon, sausage and mushrooms, vine tomatoes - the works!! You won’t need to eat again until the evening! Amanda and Ashley are terrific hosts, warm and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Do go and stay with them!

What a find, an excellent B&B. Ashley obviously enjoys being a host. We received a warm, friendly welcome from him which was his approach throughout our stay. Our bedroom was comfortable and roomy and the vase of fresh flowers appreciated. We enjoyed the ample cooked breakfasts and 2 excellent pre-booked suppers. The rural location is within easy driving distance of the coast and the towns of Dorchester and Bridport.

A v warm welcome at a beautiful house deep in the Dorset countryside. Literally at the end of the road, West Compton Manor is in some stunning countryside. Welcomed with the offer of a cocktail, I knew things were going to be just fine. A quick walk with the dog around the gorgeous lake before a drive to the nearby Fox at Corscombe for a great supper and a restful night in a perfectly appointed room. Breakfast in the garden was glorious. Served in style by Ashley, everything homemade and so generous we didn’t need to eat until supper. the table forwhich was booked by Amanda. Perfect.

What a wonderful and peaceful place to stay. Ashley and family (including dogs) looked after us so well and we were regaled with some interesting tales about the house and the tiny village of West Compton with its simple but charming church. Lovely breakfast with home-made bread, local jams and Ashley's wonderfully cooked eggs. Great local pubs with good food also helped make our stay memorable. We'll come back!

You couldn't fail to relax here among the family pictures, photos and memorabilia. It's a big old house but very homely and Ashley and Amanda are warm and fun. Terrier Tipple pretends to be fierce when you arrive but she's only flouncing - her sidekick Skinny the lurcher is as laid back as a bass player.

Ashley is a thoughtful and lively host. He was concerned about our comfort, and provided us with a superb breakfast of our choice - porridge, fruit, and a full english. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable, and whether it was being in the depths of the Dorset countryside and all the fresh air, but we slept like logs. Manor Farm is within a short drive of the jurassic coast, Bridport and Dorchester, and there are excellent pubs on the coast and near Manor Farm who use local in season food, so we had delicious evening meals at reasonable prices. We are looking forward to a return visit.

This place is truly one of the best Sawdays. Ashley makes you feel totally welcome. He is very flexible on timings, so you feel completely relaxed. He cooks a spectacular breakfast, and is thoroughly generous in his approach. This is genuinely B&B at its best. Ashley takes great delight in passing on information on the house and village if you ask him - and the surrounding country is spectacular. Over the brow of the hill you can see the sea. Ashley is also very dog friendly, which we liked. The bed was very comfy giving an excellent night's sleep, and we had a wing to ourselves. 10/10!

What a lovely place. We were shattered after Camp Bestival and were in need of a comfy bed and a hot bath, both of which we got. Ashley is a welcoming host and a real character - he told us what to visit in the local area and provided us with a fantastic breakfast. The peace was tangible, and we left relaxed and refreshed.

Location
The neighbourhood
West Compton is made up of a cluster of houses at the head of a small valley, formed by a tributary of the river Frome. The surrounding chalk hills are part of the Dorset Downs – walk up Eggardon Hill for stunning views down to the sea. You're under 10 miles from Bridport for pop-up artisan food, good markets, independent shops and an arts centre. Dorchester is about 10 miles the other way; visit Max Gate, Thomas Hardy's old house and garden or walk around Maiden Castle, an iron age fort. For posher than pub grub try The Ollerod in Beaminster.
Local points of interest from Ashley Stewart
- Coarse fishing available on estate lake for a quiet moment in competition with Kingfishers and Heron.
- 4 miles from the stunning Jurassic coast, home to fossils and actors alike.
- Squiffle the Saturday market and Antique Quarter of Bridport.
- Take in the stunning coastline to Abbotsbury, where the Swannery hosts some of the most diverse wildlife in the South West, or lose yourself in the Sub-Tropical Gardens.
- Walk up to the Iron Age fort at Eggardon Hill, and look across the stunning Marshwood Vale to Devon.

Introducing
Ashley Stewart
Ashley, ex-event manager, party planner, DJ – now builder, designer, forager, is a huge character. He clearly loves people and sharing his home and always has a project on the go. At the moment he's creating a games room out of another outbuilding. Amanda was an agent for TV and radio presenters then spent some time working in a B&B in Italy and enjoyed it. She's a natural home-maker and also a people person so between the two of them they look after you incredibly well.
We were in need of peace, quiet and relaxation and that is exactly what we got. Beautiful surroundings, a comfortable bed and a fine breakfast. Would recommend.
