The Experience
Find characterful rooms looking out to fields or The Tyndale Monument in this farmhouse filled with wooden beams, wonky floors, books, flowers and lovely art; guests are in one wing and charming hosts, Deborah and Charles, live on the other side.
Breakfast is sociable and scrumptious: homemade marmalades, granola and croissants followed by something hot with eggs from hens in the garden and locally sourced bacon and sausages. Plan your day with books and maps in the snug by the log-burner – there are plenty of walks leaving from the door. Join the Cotswold Way (15 minutes) and climb high to gaze over sweeping views across the Severn Estuary.
Walk to two pubs with beer gardens in under 20 minutes. Dogs will love playing in the garden and discovering treats on arrival. In the evenings you can cook on the BBQ, play croquet and toast marshmallows on the fire.

Fabulous B&B - perfectly located for walking the Cotswold Way and with hosts Charles & Debs who know exactly how to look after their guests: from the delicious coffee & walnut cake served with tea or fresh coffee on arrival (even a choice of medium or strong coffee!) to the sumptuous mattress topper to make the bed even more comfy, to the excellent shower, to the amazing breakfast with Debs' own-recipe granolas. We had to leave after 1 night, sadly, but have already booked our return. (P.S. Covid rules meticulously followed).

The most wonderful BnB we have ever stayed in, so wonderful I’d say it’s so much more than a BnB, and more the most idyllic home you are welcomed into. The hosts, Debs and Charles were lovely - nothing was ever any trouble, they booked us restaurants, gave us great day trip ideas, cooked us incredible meals, and made a fuss of our little dog with a nice comfy bed for him to snooze in. The rooms are large and beautifully decorated, with huge beds that induce sleep the moment you lie down - perfect after a long day walking! For 100% relaxation, we couldn’t recommend Forthay enough.

My first time exploring the British Country side. I was welcomed with complete hospitality from the owners. Fabulously decorated bedroom, including modern bathroom. I slept beautifully. Awoke to bird song! Breakfast was stupendous with the most delicious Granola cereal I’ve ever had, followed by a mouth watering Full English Breakfast. It set me up extremely well for a 26 miles walk through exquisite panoramic surroundings.. Thank you Forthay B&B

Arrived later than I'd hoped, (wanted to go for one of the local walks) received a warm welcome and shown around the house and to my room. I had a lovely fresh cup of coffee and biscuits waiting in the snug - this room available for guests is so cosy with the log burning stove in full glow I easily settled down for the evening and got on with some work. After a short while I was fortunate to have the company of Charles and Debs cat and 2 of their lovely 3 dogs join me, so sweet. I didn't do breakfast justice just wasn't hungry enough, the egg was fab. Lovely hospitality in a super nice house.

Location
The neighbourhood
The B&B is down a small lane on the edge of North Nibley village next to a few other houses – there’s a working farm to the left and fields opposite. Wotton-under-Edge (a 10-minute drive or an hour and a half walk) is a historic market town with a few cafes, wine bar and independent shops and grocery shops.
Local points of interest from Deborah Lamplugh
- North Nibley is a pretty village on the Cotswold Way surrounded by stunning countryside walks and the Tyndale Monument. The village has 2 dog friendly pubs, both serve food, 10 and 20 minute walk away. It also has a village shop and a wonderful cafe.
- Berkeley Castle, a 12th Century castle owned by the Berkeley family, one of the most remarkable buildings in Britain hosts a packed calendar of events Feb-Oct. Next to Berkeley is Frampton on Severn, hire a bike or barge for the day exploring the canal.
- SlimbrIdge Wetland Centre is a 15 minute drive from Forthay. Enjoy amazing wildlife close up with a packed schedule of activities all year round to entertain all age groups and budding ornithologists.
- Westonbirt Arboretum, Highgrove Gardens and the beautiful town of Tetbury and it’s wonderful array of antique and independent shops are all 15 minutes drive away. Garden tours at Highgrove need to be booked in advance and well worth a visit.
- Take a trip to the award winning Woodchester Vineyard near Stroud, where they provide superb wine tours and wine tastings. Visit the nearby charming town of Nailsworth, a foodies heaven, with a superb selection of eateries and independent quirky shops.
- Forthay is in the perfect location to explore the fabulous cities of Cheltenham, Bristol and Bath, all less than 25 miles away. The perfect blend of spa town architecture meets Cotswold chocolate box charm and character.

Introducing
Deborah Lamplugh
Friendly and welcoming Deborah and Charles along with their three dogs (Monty, Matilda and Margot) and cat (Humphrey) moved to the area two years ago from Surrey and have been running the B&B since 2018 after a year of renovations. They love gardening, golf and welcoming guests into their home.
We had two nights at Forthay. To say that we were impressed would be an understatement. Rhys, Charles and Deb's son, greeted us on arrival and made us feel welcome. Very comfortable accommodation and splendid breakfasts. My wife particularly enjoyed the home made granola. Debs cooked us dinner on one evening and it was excellent. We were fortunate to have good weather and being able to eat outside in the lovely garden was a treat. The wine was good, too. Charles and Debs are splendid hosts. The best recommendation that we can give is that we hope to be able to stay again.
