The Experience
This former brickhouse dating from 1790 is now a grand home with marvellous family portraits and sublime furniture, yet has a comfy, homely feel. Kids will love the huge garden and the two single rooms that have stairs up to a raised bed.
Christoph provides an organic box from the excellent local farm shop with bacon, eggs, milk, butter and cake plus a bottle of wine, and food delivery can be arranged along with catering. You can cook together in the kitchen, or use the barbecue – there’s a big dining out area in the garden, as well as a trampoline.
You’re surrounded by beautiful gardens, bird life and views of the river. Hire kayaks or canoes from nearby New Forest Activities. The footpath to the historic and beautiful Buckler’s Hard, with its maritime museum and lovely pub/restaurant The Master Builder (30 minutes) is behind the house. The pretty village of Beaulieu is a 15-20 minute walk or five minutes’ drive.

It would be hard to find a more idyllic place for a family holiday or indeed for a group of adults wanting to explore this beautiful neck of the woods with the river on your doorstep and so much history in the region. The Brickhouse is comfortable, elegant and spacious and rather delightfully old fashioned. A perfect escape from a busy working life and absolutely charming.

Location
The neighbourhood
An activity centre next door to the house offers paint balling, archery, kayaking, high wires and bike hire. The Motor Museum in Beaulieu is a must on a rainy day and there is also the famous Abbey. There is a pretty beach at Lepe, 20 minutes’ drive, and the ever popular Paultons Park – the home of Peppa Pig World – is half an hour away. For eating out, Beaulieu has the Montague Arms and Steff's Kitchen, and the Pig at Brockenhurst is about 20 minutes’ away. The East End Arms, about 14 minutes’ drive, has wonderful food.
Local points of interest from Christoph Brooke

- Dripping in history - HMS Salisbury launched in 1698 built on the river at the end of the garden. Bricks, made at the property and fired in the Kiln at the end of the garden used in original buildings in Antigua, W Indies
- New Forest Activities right next door - at various local locations they provide: kayaking, canoeing, ropes course, archery, laser tag, team building, bicycle hire. Brilliant for the kids and teens...adult groups as well!

Introducing
Christoph Brooke
Christoph has a long history in the catering business and owns two very smart hotels in Stamford. When he took on the lease of The Brickhouse he spent six months restoring it, and initially used the house as a weekend/holiday retreat for his family; now that his girls are older and they come less often he is renting it out. Charming housekeeper Bex, who lives next door, is the main point of contact.
Fabulous 1700’s House in a beautiful riverside setting. We wanted a house that slept 8 for a Family Birthday Celebration. Thank goodness we found Brickworks House. A large well stocked kitchen with Aga (in the winter), A large lounge/dining room an ‘office’ area, a TV snug, three double bedrooms (two with on suite) and two childrens’ singles. My Lord, what more could you ask for. It’s not like a rental, it’s like moving into someone else’s home for while. The home has everything you could want together with a very well equipped kitchen. Oh, it’s also dog friendly. Another plus point for us.
