The Experience
A glowing Georgian manor surrounded by parkland. Step inside to find an amazing array of family pieces and log fires merrily burning.
Traditional bedrooms have glorious garden views and proper 50s bathrooms. Come down to platefuls of crispy bacon, local eggs, chipolatas and mushrooms, grape juice from the glasshouse vines – in the kitchen with your relaxed hosts, or in the dining room if you come as a posse of family or friends.
Wander through the grounds – a sunken garden with wisteria and classical statues, pleached limes and rose beds, lily pond, immaculate paths through the walled kitchen garden with neat box hedging. And then beyond, a short woodland walk with shrubs and a 200-year-old Cedar of Lebanon, a Victorian Hollow with many varieties of ferns and a laburnum walk leading down to a bronze statue, a John Downie apple pergola and a dovecote. Carolyn is the plantsman, Charles the designer (look for clues of a Napoleonic theme!).

Introducing
Carolyn & Charles de Salis
Charles and Carolyn have lived at Yarlington since the 1950s. Carolyn is an expert embroiderer and was on the board of the Royal School of Needlework. She's also Chair of the Overlord Embroidery Trust. Charles has written and lectured on various subjects, chiefly the Napoleonic period; he's collected Napoleonica since he was six. They both like to paint and have 12 grandchildren.
What a find! Yarlington House is remarkable and full of beautiful art and original features - we could have happily spent our entire time in Somerset sightseeing just inside the house! The gardens are also stunning, complete with statues, clever landscaping and even a swimming pool. We also loved having the acres of land that belong to Yarlington House to explore. Our room was both beautiful and comfortable and we loved the delicious breakfasts cooked by Carolyn - it included the best bacon we've ever tried! We're already planning to come back.
