The Experience
Walnut House stands alone just behind the Duncombe Arms and has views of Dove Valley and the Derbyshire Hills in the distance. Find homemade biscuits, tea and coffee in your room, plus comfy armchairs, magazines to flick through and original artworks on the walls.
Huge breakfasts in the pub feature top quality ingredients sourced from local farms – lunch and dinner are a treat too. Sip a pint of Duncombe Ale, specially brewed for the pub, or try one of the 40 craft gins; you can play dominoes in front of the fire, chat to the friendly locals (this place gets busy in summer) or sit out on the garden in fine weather.
A range of activities and spectacular scenery in the Peak District National Park are within half an hour’s drive, as are water sports on Carsington Water. English Heritage houses such as Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall are within an hour’s drive.

Location
The neighbourhood
The B&B is set in the small village of Ellastone and is surrounded by cottages, with the nearest shops three miles away in Rocester. There are two or three footpaths of varying length that leave from your door: one short and circular, another of about six miles that leads to Calwich Abbey.

Introducing
James Oddy
The manager of The Duncombe Arms, James, is the main point of contact for guests and all the staff are unfailingly courteous and attentive.
Very well appointed rooms with countryside views. Very good food served by friendly, knowledgeable staff. A new dining extension has been added this year opening out on to the outside dining area.
