The Experience

Find beautiful old stone walls, high ceilings and Velux roof windows – the cottage is light, bright and warm thanks to underfloor heating powered by an air source heat pump and solar panels. Walk in to an open-plan living space with a sofabed and a table and chairs for two or four. Local art hangs on the walls, there are books, games and puzzles to entertain and a shared games room if it pours with rain.

Cooking is easy in the kitchen and you’ll find all you need plus fresh bread, butter, eggs and biscuits. You’ll sleep soundly in a king-size big bed with crisp cotton and the shower/wet room is marble tiled with a pebble floor under the shower to massage your feet. Warm fluffy towels await on a heated rail and there are delicious-smelling soaps and shampoos.

Your own secluded terrace with shrubs, pots and herbs is a lovely place for a barbecue and a long summer supper while you enjoy the peace with a glass of wine.

Location

The neighbourhood

This is a peaceful spot with an interesting 12th-century motte nearby. You're four miles from Lochmaben which has three lochs for sailing, and three from Lockerbie for shops, restaurants and monthly farmers' market. Moffat is 15 miles; Annan is 14, with distilleries, festivals, museum and the 53-mile Annandale Way running through, starting at the source of the river Annan.

Local points of interest from Kirsteen & Andrew Michell

  • Applegarth is the Clan seat of the Jardines There is a 12th century Motte in the garden and a church with ancient graveyard next-door -fascinating for history lovers. Applegarth House was the 17th c Manse and our new cottages were the Stable and Byre.
  • We are situated on the River Annan so fishing is easily available. There is a lovely golf course at Lochmaben just 4 miles away and also a loch for coarse fishing. Scenic tennis courts are near Lockerbie with an excellent village cafe.
  • There are endless walks - near and far. Explore the Solway Coast or walk in the hills near Moffat. Grey Mare's Tail is a fabulous climb following the dramatic waterfall. Or gently walk the length or part of the length of the River Annan. Doggy heaven!
  • Come for the last May Bank Holiday for Spring Fling when the artists of Dumfriesshire fling open their studio doors and welcome all visitors to see and buy. Special routes are created to facilitate covering different regions of the county.
  • This is the birthplace of the bike - by Kirkpatrick MacMillan in 1839. We have world class cycle trails in our region including the 7 stanes and dedicated routes for all abilities. Mountain, Gravel, Road Biking and tours and services.
  • Mostly Ghostly Tours! – Dumfriesshire’s first paranormal investigation team and creators of ghost and evocative local history tours - everything from Scotland’s most haunted road to an intriguing vampire legend dating back to the 12th century.

Introducing

Kirsteen & Andrew Michell

Kirsteen and Andrew like the flow of new people and happily share their home and cottage. Andrew is semi-retired, Kirsteen was previously in hospitality; she’s keen on cooking, including making marmalade and elderflower cordial. They love their dogs, whippet Ozzie and Labradors Phoebe and Milly, and walking them in beautiful Dumfriesshire.
