The Experience
Originally built in the 1600s from warm limestone, the château oozes character and ticks every romantic box: towers with limestone roofs, turret stairs and a charming pigeonnier. But the feel is intimate with cosy spaces to gather plus a smart kitchen and every creature comfort you might fancy: a swimming pool, hot tub, gym, private cinema and a plush bar.
Outside there are miles of woodland walks from the door, a playground to keep children happy and a lake and lakehouse set up for yoga classes or pampering massages – just ask the friendly owners who can organise anything. Pick up local treats from the Sunday market in Saint-Cyprien (5km) and eat in the gilded dining room before sipping a digestif in front of a glowing fire – or dine outside on the huge terrace and gaze at the mesmerising valley views.
Sumptuous bedrooms with marble bathrooms are scattered across both wings, the tower and the pigeonnier – perfect for families and friends.

Location
The neighbourhood
The medieval market town of Saint-Cyprien is 5km away, yet the château feels truly remote, surrounded by impressive forests and walking trails starting from the door. You're surrounded by castles and historic sites including the caves of Lascaux and Font de Gaume as well as picturesque towns and villages. Foodies can visit Sarlat's (20km) twice-weekly market and wine lovers mustn't miss Bergerac (50km).
Local points of interest from Amélie
- Château La Carrière is located in the heart of the Périgord Noir in the Dordogne, one of the most celebrated areas in France, known for its lush landscape, stunning chateaux, beautiful medieval villages, pre-historic caves and rich food culture.
- It is said that there are 1,001 chateaux in the Dordogne. Some of the most famous are less than a 20-minute drive away: Beynac (perched on a rock), Castelnaud (awesome fortress), Milandes (former home of Josephine Baker) and Commarque (fairy-tale ruin).
- Some of the most beautiful towns and villages in France are on our doorstep: Sarlat (14th-century town centre), Beynac (known for its impressive castle), La Roque-Cageac (built against a rock), Domme (great views) and Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère (very pretty).
- Château La Carrière is very close to a number of world famous caves with pre-historic wall paintings. The most renowned is Lascaux, but some less famous ones, such as Font-de-Gaume, Bara-Bahau and Grotte du Sorcier, are awe-inspiring as well.
- Food is a very important part of life in the Périgord Noir. Our village, Saint-Cyprien, has a particularly lively market on Sunday morning. And, if you like wine, we highly recommend going to our neighbour, a well-known organic wine maker.
- Finally, if you like walking or mountain biking, come to the Dordogne, where you find endless forest trails. Two of them even start right at Château La Carrière. Just watch out for all the wildlife!

Introducing
Amélie
French Amélie (who grew up locally) and English Josh met in Australia before travelling and working together in hospitality. They live on site and can arrange everything from a private chef to hot air balloon rides but leave you to enjoy the château and estate in peace.
Wow. This unique château has the character of a period property yet the intimacy of a family retreat. Add to this the friendly expertise of your host, Amélie, and it becomes a homely gem, with sumptuous bedrooms, cosy corners for board games and a sunny terrace with fabulous views. Ideal for gathering friends or family to share poolside days and al fresco dinners in happy seclusion.
