The Experience
You’re well looked after here by bubbly Madame, steeped as she is in the Basque tradition of hospitality. The house is listed: find ox-blood red shutters and door, a courtyard garden and wide views of the mountains. You breakfast in the dining room or on the terrace; what could be nicer than a just-baked croissant and a fresh fruit salad surrounded only by views and birdsong. This is a gentle, quiet place – not for those seeking thrills. Bedrooms are old-fashioned and flowery with balconies; beds have thick mattresses and embroidered pillow cases, bathrooms are clean and comfortable. Hop on the petit train for even more views.

We visited the Dominxenea Chambres D'Hotes in June 2017 and can report it was a first class experience from Start to Finish. A very friendly welcome at the local hotel which is run by the same owners was followed by an informative tour of the premises , which have a lovely traditional and homely decor throughout. A garden with fantastic views, , terrace and a nicely decorated lounge, stacked with useful books are for use of the guests . Also a fridge, useful ! The breakfast with home made jams etc , is a highlight and brought along fresh every day. A definite thumps up ! Very good.

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Laurence & Jean Baptiste Fagoaga
- Our 16th Century B&B is only at 12 Km from the sea and at the foot of the mountains, also at 2Km from the border of Spain.
- The Petit train de la Rhune is at 3 km away ! And if you are in a good shape, you can easily walk to the top following the GR10.
- Plenty of walks in the village and the surroundings : just ask us for a detailed map. Also golf courses, horse-riding, surf...
- For diner, come to our restaurant ARRAYA situated in the heart of beautiful village of Sare, 1,5km away.

We spent 5 nights at Dominxenea in September 2018. It was our first visit to this part of France and Sare turned out to be a good base to explore the area. Dominxenea is beautifully appointed and feels like a 5 star hotel but more relaxed. Laurence and Jean Baptiste are perfect hosts with a great knowledge of the area. The breakfasts are to die for. Staying at Dominxenea really gives you the sense of being in Basque country!
