The Experience
Enter the courtyard of this sprawling, fascinating, labyrinthine château, to be welcomed by smiling Christine. Built and extended over five centuries – the 13th to the 18th – it stands alone in large leafy grounds.
Orchard-fruit jams are served at breakfast, at a huge table in the salon, and Burgundian dishes at dinner, accompanied by local wines. A day in the region’s wine capital, beautiful Beaune (25km), is a must. Ask Christine for her favourite historic buildings, wine cellars, and restaurants.
Hiker heaven is a 40-minute drive, so head for the hills of the Morvan Regional Natural Park. Return for a stroll around the flower gardens, and turn in for the night. Bathrooms are excellent contemporary, bedrooms are sheer delight. Relish big beds, 18th-century furnishings, and stunning countryside views.

Christine is in love with her chateau and has created a wonderful place to stay taking you back to the 18th century where you can imagine being Lord and Lady of the castle. Period furnishings reinforce the dream and it's glorious isolation means the modern world is kept at bay during your stay in her family home.

Location
The neighbourhood
The château stands isolated in farming country, in three acres of grounds with original fortifications intact - and a barbecue you may use. The closest restaurants are in Lacanche (7km) or drive 15 minutes to little Arnay le Duc for the much-loved Chez Camille. Other nearby sites worth singling out are Domaine Germain Père et Fils (15km), one of the wineries of Sainte Romaine; the medieval Château de Coraboeuf, plus dungeons (7km); and the Musée Papotte, 11km, a delightful social history museum where you can learn the old trades.

Introducing
Christine Corvisier
Owner Christine is absolutely charming. A passionate "lover of ancient sites", she is immersed in the chateau's on-going restoration. She and her husband live in a separate wing and share an admirable aim: "to allow guests to dive deep into the 18th century." This was the period of the Barons of Joursanvault - a high point in the history of this domaine.
If you like to enjoy local history along with a great hospitality - this is the place. Christine and Pierre walked us through the history and culture of this beautiful mansion and grounds.
