The Experience
Arrive at this restored sheep barn (known as a jas) and immediately feel enveloped by calm. Jérôme (ex-Parisian) and Dana (he’s Canadian) are a delightful couple, their wired-haired dachshund, Addis, equally as welcoming.
Choose from rooms in the main house or by the infinity pool, all with private entrances. Breakfast is original, varied and features just-picked, homegrown fruits and herbs from the garden: homemade yoghurt, sweet or savoury muffins beautifully presented, an elegant fried egg, always served with freshly squeezed orange juice and your choice of the best teas and coffees.
There’s a summer kitchen next to the pool for making light meals, or your hosts will direct you to good restaurants, the nearest only a five-minute drive away. Walk, hike or cycle the surrounding countryside, visit nearby hilltop villages or take a day trip to the coast. Return for a dip in the heated pool; relax in the oasis-like garden with a book from the library – you’ll have just butterflies, bees and birds for company.

A haven of peace with wonderful views and surrounding countryside. We spent a restful couple of nights in one of the chic poolside cabins. Jerome and Dana welcomed us warmly and had lots of good ideas for outings and eating - including an incredible, breathtaking walk along the Crête to Cairn 2000 and in the evening a really excellent meal at la Cocotte! A lovely stay in a beautiful spot.

We had the most wonderful stay with Dana, Jérôme and of course Addis, Castor & Pollux. The welcome was warm, the rooms were beautiful - stylish and comfortable - and the breakfasts were excellent! Dana’s home made lemon madeleines, the chocolate & matcha muffins & yoghurt with granola were all amazing! The pool was gorgeous and the setting was so peaceful and beautifully cool in the evenings when we enjoyed amazing starlit views of the hills & valley. Jérôme & Dana could not have been more welcoming and their advice on places to visit, cycle routes and places to eat were all perfect. Wonderful

To celebrate our birthdays we found this delightful spot with equally delightful hosts & dogs. Another couple were also celebrating a birthday so it was happy b'days all round! We were entertained by the 3 teckels & their teckel friend from Germany each morning at b'fast which was delicious with a new offering from Dana's kitchen every day. The setting is beautiful, lovely gardens & a far-reaching view from the infinity pool which refreshed us after a day out slogging up the nearby mountain or pottering through pretty villages. Our comfortable cabane was right by the pool - very practical!

We spent a glorious 5 days at Jas de Boeuf. A truly wonderful and peaceful setting with the most charming and helpful hosts. Dana and Jerome could not have been more welcoming and were extremely attentive going out of there way to make our stay so enjoyable. A fabulous pool to relax by with the most stunning views over the Provence countryside. We have stayed in many Sawday establishments over the years and Jas de Boeuf is right up there among the best.

Died and gone to heaven comes to mind! Stunning location with wonderfully kept, terraced gardens full of typically Provencal, calming herbs, buzzing with insects under the blazing sun. Too good for a stop-over en route to somewhere else - this is a destination stay! Fabulous hosts, interesting and charming, make this a delightful place to relax, explore the area of rolling hills and 'perched' villages, each day kicked off with a sumptuous and original breakfast lovingly prepared by Dana with fruit from the garden and local produce. The infinity pool, with perfect views , tops it all off!

We just spent a wonderful long weekend in Le Jas-du-Boeuf enjoying magnificent autumn weather. The nights were already a little chilly but we kept nicely warm in the cosy japanese-style bungalow 'Chênes'. Jerome and Dana proved attentive hosts, serving us delicious breakfasts every morning. Our lady dog enjoyed the company of their quiet brothers Castor + Pollux - all was perfect! Nature lovers like ourselves who appreciate creature comforts as well as design and style will love this place!

Jerome and Dana were the most welcoming and lovely hosts who really did everything they could to make our stay as wonderful as possible. Their gorgeous dogs Castor and Pollux loved our Sheila too! Amazing pool, gorgeous room, delicious supper on the terrace outside in the evening where wine and laughter flowed freely. Would recommend to anyone - do stay more than one night though to really explore the place and surroundings.

Location
The neighbourhood
The house is in the Pays de Forcalquier region of Provence, halfway between the Alps and the Mediterranean and between the Lure and Luberon mountains. The nearest village, Cruis, is a five-minute drive away and has a gourmet restaurant, the Auberge de l’Abbaye, and a casual bistro, as well as a bakery, a shop, a medieval church and a market on Saturdays. The nearest town, Forcalquier, is a 30-minute drive and has restaurants, cafes and a market on Mondays and Thursdays. For day trips, there are plenty of destinations within a two-hour drive: Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, The Luberon, Marseille and Verdon Gorge river canyon.
Local points of interest from Jérôme Mantel & Dana Silk
- Although the Lure Mountain is almost as high as the Ventoux there are not hundreds of cyclists grinding their way to the top. Halfway up you can check out Notre-Dame de Lure, a mystical 12th century chapel with its very own hermit.
- Banon is a beautiful perched village that boasts one of the largest independent bookstores in France as well as some nice shops and restaurants. Just down the road is another perched village, Simiane la Rotonde, with great views of lavender fields.
- The gentle flank of the Lure up behind our house, riddled with trails sometimes marked by shreds of wool from errant sheep, is home to lots of birds but not much else, making it ideal for relaxing walks. Straight up it becomes mountain bike heaven.
- Lurs was once an abandoned village overlooking the Durance valley, not far from the still active monastery of Ganagobie. Perfect for a stroll, lunch at the Bistro de Pays or afternoon tea.
- Forcalquier has an enormous outdoor market on Monday mornings, an organic market on Thursday afternoons, great little shops, restaurants, galleries and a new musuem - Artemisia - dedicated to aromatic and medicinal plants.
- There are several factory outlet stores at the entrance to the autoroute, notably Lothantique for soaps and cosmetics, Manon for chocolates and sweets, as well as an award-winning olive oil producer - Arizzi - just across the Durance.

Introducing
Jérôme Mantel & Dana Silk
Dana, who is Canadian, did environmental work with the UN and Jérôme was a Parisian lawyer. Dana enjoys his cooking, produces wonders in the veggie patch, and is the main point of contact with guests. Jérôme discreetly tidies your room each day and tends the flower beds and terraced gardens.
Wow, what a stay! Le Jas Du Boeuf is tucked away in the most beautiful setting, surrounded by nature and with views all the way down to Marseille on a clear day. Dana and Jérôme were very welcoming hosts and created delicious breakfasts every day. Our room, the Garrigue cabin was stylish and comfortable. We loved forgetting what day it was by the pool and venturing out to Cruis and Forcalquier, trying out Dana and Jérôme's restaurant recommendations. And it was a joy to meet their dog, Addis and give him ear tickles every morning. We can't wait to go back again!
