The Experience
Step from the bustle of town into the cool quiet of the hall and a cheery welcome from your hosts, Guillaume and Delphine. The house turns inwards to the walled garden, plane trees dapple the swimming pool with shade – take a dip, or play pétanque. Breakfasts of fresh fruit, eggs and local goats cheese are served here, too.
It’s a short walk to restaurants in Brignoles (your hosts can arrange babysitting), or opt for table d’hôte – a Provençal feast carefully paired with local wines. Apartment guests have kitchenettes, but you are welcome to add breakfast or dinner. For rainy days, find books and musical instruments in the shared sitting room.
Rooms for two are effortlessly stylish with garden views, good beds and fresh linens. Apartments will suit families; Leone looks out at the spectacular Montagne de la Loube and the cosy garden cottage is set apart. Take over the whole house for a relaxed gathering of 15.

Location
The neighbourhood
The house is at the centre of the busy agricultural town of Brignoles, close to its medieval heart. For Provençal cooking The Jardin restaurant is nearby. Explore the town on foot - bars and cafés, the museum of the Comtes de Provence, a master chocolatier and a lively produce market on Saturday. The closest train station is Toulon and there are limited buses to Marseille airport.

Introducing
Guillaume Fasquelle
Guillaume and Delphine welcome you warmly to their home which they share with their two children. Guillaume works in travel, the couple decided to take the plunge in 2019 and bought Maison Sumiane, scouring the region for just the right pieces to furnish this elegant house. In the process, they've done a lot of exploring in their new area and are on hand to help guests do the same.
I found the Maison Sumiane utterly charming and the Frasquelles delightful and enthusiastic. They have tastefully restored the mansion, given it soul and embarked on a new life with their young family. This is perfect for off season stays (olive oil harvest in November, truffle tastings all winter) or an attractive alternative in summer to the over-crowded coastal resorts of the Var.
