The Experience
Natural stone floors, high beamed ceilings and neutral colours give a contemporary, airy feel to the house. The living and dining area is roomy with a comfortable sofa and an old stone fireplace with a wood-burner for chilly evenings. A rectangular kitchen is well equipped (even with oyster knives, as this is Atlantic island oyster territory) and leads out to a pocket-sized courtyard. It’s peaceful here for a morning cup of tea or evening apéros.
Step out to excellent restaurants, a fine 15th-century château open as a modern arts museum with rooftop dining and superb antique shops. Once a month there’s a fabulous flea market too. Montsoreau is at the very heart of the UNESCO heritage site and everywhere you go you’ll find a fine building, a vineyard and a pretty town or hamlet to discover.
Bedrooms have parquet floors, interesting art and good cotton sheets, bathrooms are small but perfectly formed with walk-in showers.

We had an amazing time at Le Seize. The house is absolutely lovely - beautifully decorated with a relaxing, fully-enclosed courtyard. We loved being in Montsoreau and had a ball exploring neighbouring chateaux and vineyards with our dog.

Our second visit to this wonderful house in the beautiful village of Montsoreau on the banks of the Loire. The house is tastefully furnished, very comfortable, clean and well appointed - brilliantly laid out with two large bedrooms (both en suite) and a lovely suntrap courtyard to the rear. The village is very quiet and we enjoyed a walk for a beer most evenings and bought our meat and pastries from the boucherie and boulangerie in the square. There is also a small supermarket for other 'emergencies'. Now we've found this house and village, we have already booked for 2025.

We spent two weeks in this beautiful house. Just a short walk from the village centre with a small supermarket, boucherie, boulangerie, cafés, restaurants and shops. The Sunday market was a great place to find local produce. Montsoreau is a pretty village and is well situated for exploring the area. Le Seize is beautifully restored and very tastefully decorated. The private courtyard was a peaceful place to enjoy the sunshine or shade. Our first visit to the Loire Valley, but probably not our last.

A real gem of a find. We have just had a great two weeks in Le Seize. The owners have made it a real home from home, we felt very relaxed there. Very tastefully fitted out and everything you could want to make a very enjoyable stay. Peaceful, the courtyard garden an added sun trap bonus. Montsoreau is a beautiful village, in a beautiful setting. The river is a few minutes walk away. Lots of places to visit both nearby and further afield. Would definitely return.

A lovely holiday home in a superb location. We spent a week in Le Seize in May and had a lovely stay. The property itself is bright, spacious and well decorated, and the sun-trap (weather permitting!) courtyard garden a lovely bonus. It's excellently located too, in the heart of the picturesque village, with local shops including a butcher and boulangerie, cafes, restaurants and the river Loire itself within walking distance. Glyn was an excellent host, easy to contact, responsive to any queries and providing a warm welcome on arrival. We are already planning our return trip next year.

La Seize is a beautifully restored Loire house, furnished & fitted to a very high standard. Montsoreau is a peaceful, picturesque village with many services, activities & restaurants in walking distance. Tons & tons to do and see in the wider area, and an easy drive down from the channel. Glyn and John were hugely helpful hosts, living just a few minutes away. We visited during a week of wonderful sunshine over Easter but had we been more confined the house would still have worked really well for us – spacious yet cosy, and very attractively furnished. The private courtyard is a great suntrap.

My wife and I spent 3 nights in this beautiful, thoughtfully decorated and superbly comfortable apartment. The apartment was very clean on arrival and the welcome gift was a pleasant surprise. The location is excellent with the lovely village centre within easy walking distance. We loved the good coffee machine and the fireplace with good supply of logs. The beds are very comfortable which is so important. Glynn and John were very responsive hosts and offered good tips for restaurants and sightseeing. We felt instantly at home and we plan to return.

Montsoreau is my favourite village in France and this beautifully- restored village house is the the prefect base for experiencing the Loire Valley at its best. Browse for treasures at monthly antique fair, wander the labyrinthine streets and visit the local châteaux, cycle the Loire à Velo route, taste the wonderful wines of Saumur Champigny, picnic on the riverbank...bliss!

Location
The neighbourhood
There are several local winemakers with tasting rooms in the village. Walk to the Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud, 40 minutes, to admire Richard the Lionheart's effigy. Set off along the river or head south for gentle hills, vineyards, fields and forests. Hire bikes and join the track which follows the Loire to the Atlantic. Visit endless grand châteaux and gardens - Villandry is lovely, as is Ussé.
Local points of interest from Glyn & John Ward
- Go for a relaxing stroll, follow the river towards Candes-Saint-Martin you won’t be disappointed. A beaux village just minutes from Le Seize. Enjoy the architecture. Wander to the wine bar by the river and try some new wines and “le snacking' Perfect!
- Sunday morning, the bustling market is the place to be. Buy local produce, have a glass of wine, watch the world go by, live like a local. The famous flea market ‘Les Puces de Montsoreau’ on the quayside is lively. Find that hidden treasure, maybe!
- Close by, the 11th century Royal Abbey of Fontevraud. It's a must do! Explore this spiritual and beautiful building, the final resting place of Richard the Lionheart. Dine in the Michelin star restaurant. Fabulous.! Wander around the pretty village.
- River trips on a traditional 'Toue Cabanee' is a must. Dine onboard and watch the sun setting over the river or for early birds, watch the rising sun. Silently, float down to Saumur, pass the troglo houses carved from the soft Tuffeau stone. Stunning!
- The Renaissance style château of Montsoreau, dominates the Loire. Inspired Alexandre Dumas to write his novel. Beautiful building to wander around. Contemporary art installations for added interest and a fabulous view from the top. Will it inspire you?
- Cycle along the river & visit the famous producers of sparkling wine; Ackerman, Gratien & Meyer, Bouvet Ladubay . In the heat of summer, go for a cycle ride deep in the cool caves, discover the history of wine making, have a tasting & cycle gently back.

Introducing
Glyn & John Ward
Owners Glyn and John are British but have lived in France for many years. They bought a crumbling manor house, restored it and ran it as a Sawday's B&B very successfully. Now they live in a more sensibly sized house not far from the town. They've very much enjoyed decorating Le Seize with interesting brocante finds and they hope you'll enjoy staying there.
With a comfortable and modern interior, this gîte brillant for a fabulous getaway along the Loire. Located a short 5-10 stroll to the centre of Montsoreau (which is well served by bars/cafés, restaurants, a bakery, butchers and a mini supermarket), both bedrooms are spacious with a lovely en-suite, the kitchen has everything you'd need (Nespresso machine a bonus), and the courtyard is great for chilling and BBQ'ing! You can leave the car all week, with walks both ways along the Loire and Vienne rivers, again with more places to eat and drink. Very friendly owners with nothing too much trouble!
