The Experience
The owners live in the handsome 18th-century manoir, and the guests’ suites in the grey-shuttered stables. But the setting is the thing: three hectares of parkland where birds trill, hares leap, and wild boar come snuffling at night. Enjoy it all from the comfort of your own spacious terrace. Etienne is your host, highly professional, easy to talk to, full of enthusiasm for his family’s venture (his ancestors once worked on the estate). The two ground-floor suites are airy and light, with white walls, elegant colours, high rafters, immaculate beds. You’ll find little kitchenettes in the Monarque and Belle-Epoque rooms – good enough for light cooking (microwave, fridge, coffee machine) and a table inside and out. They’re spacious too – Monarque’s terrace alone is 50 sq metres!

We had a wonderful stay at this specialist chambre d'hôte in mid-August. Étienne, our host gave us many excellent recommendations for both restaurants and places to visit. His geniality was perfectly paced; from his patience over the booking process to assisting and encouraging us to try out our 'old school' French. The delicious breakfast was just perfect, this included freshly picked mirabelles, vendéen cakes and bread, homemade fig confiture and ☕️. The apartment was spotlessly clean and the bed was so comfortable that it was difficult not to sleep well in this idyllic countryside location

Local points of interest from Etienne Chaillot
- In our estate, enjoy privileged access to the 3 ha grounds composed of a large open landscape, dotted with high trees or groves, and a blended forest showing full variety of régional species. Discover our nature trail and improve your knowledge of wildlife.
- At 2,5 kms, Brétignolles sur Mer (where we have another gîte for 4) is a charming little town on the Vendée coast. You’ll love here the surrounding nature, countless bike and footpaths, small centre, markets & caves, shops and also many sandy beaches which alternate with creeks and dunes.
- Only 5 kms from the Manor, in Landevieille, the huge lake "Jaunay" offers opportunity to discover verdant nature. Enjoy the 40 hectares of space offered to walkers and mountain bikers with wide trails.
- At 13 kms, Saint Gilles Croix de Vie is the perfect seaside resort with its 3,5 km of fine sandy beaches. With a fleet of 56 vessels, the fishing harbour at Saint Gilles specialized in "blue" oily fish (sardine and maquerel) employs 150 fishermen.
- Drive less than 1 hour to Noirmoutier island and discover it's old castle, blue salt-water wetlands, warm windswept sand dunes...But be sure not miss the famous passage of Gois, a road that submerges at high tide and offers a magnificent natural show.
- Plenty of golf nearby, heritage & museums, old churches to visit, wine yards, good restaurants... Yeu island by boat from Saint Gilles Croix de Vie, Les Sables d'Olonne famous resort, Le Puy du Fou at 70 mn driving... There's something for every taste !

We had a lovely time staying at the Manoir. Our children enjoyed the grounds and were kept entertained by the chickens, lizards, praying mantises etc they found tucked away. It is extremely peaceful and yet only a short drive from La Bretignolle sur Mer with its lovely beaches. Etienne was a good host. Would hope to return.
