The Experience
Straddling Tuscany and Umbria, this bucolic, sheep-shorn, oak and olive strewn estate is in the most spectacular of settings; as you gaze for miles over castles and hills let peace and well-being wash over you. Drive along the wide, fertile Niccole valley, climb the winding white road, up through chestnut trees and arrive at this old hay barn of indeterminate age. A simple one-storey structure, it has green-painted shutters and a long cool veranda for wining, dining and nodding off in the shade. Christine and Alfredo, utterly charming and still in love with the vast estate that they bought in 1974, live in privacy 60m away, completely in tune with nature and their surroundings. Inside are country antiques and whitewashed walls, old chestnut beams and polished terracotta, a cosy kitchen with a magnificent fireplace. Spacious, authentic bedrooms lie at either end, and there’s a spotless, light-filled bathroom with walk-in shower. Bask by the pool, then pootle down the track to the rustic restaurant where Christine cooks with wonderful produce, almost all of it their own. A real treat.

Il Fienile is a tranquil place to stay during any season. The veranda is perfect to sit and listen to the wildlife watching the sun go down. Having sole use of the secluded swimming pool which is cleaned daily is an indulgence in itself. It has been the hospitality of Christine and Alfredo that has made our stay so special. Very grateful for the thoughtful complimentary produce on arrival and for their restaurant at the bottom of the hill. All the food is locally sourced and cooked by Christine with love and passion. Highly recommended. We have been made to feel like their own family.

We had a wonderful stay at Il Fienile and Christine made us feel very welcome on our arrival. Il Fienile really has so much character. Having the pool to ourselves was a massive plus, and the views from the pool of the surrounding Umbrian and Tuscan hills, really gave us the feeling that we were getting away from it all. An additional bonus for us, for when we didn’t want to cook, was Christine’s restaurant at the bottom of the hill. We would highly recommend a visit, in particular to her Sunday Brunch. Overall we had a lovely stay, and we wouldn’t hesitate about going again in the future.

Location
We had a lovely stay here. Christine and Alfredo were wonderful hosts, leaving us a great welcome pack of food on arrival and bringing us food from there farm during the course of our stay. Wonderful view from the house and beautiful swimming pool.
