The Experience
Immerse yourself in undiscovered Spain. A few kilometres from the little port of Camariñas, surrounded by trees and fields of maize, is a pretty 18th-century hamlet, a seven-room hotel. Designer Alberto from Madrid fell in love with it 40 years ago, did the place up, meticulously, and moved in with his chef son. Breakfasts are enjoyable and set you up for the day: tea, coffee, home-baked cakes, the ‘full English’ – and cornflakes! It’s a great little spot for those wishing to explore; the thrilling Costa da Morte is a stroll from the door, and Europe’s most westerly lighthouse. On rainy days – note the umbrellas by the door – there’s a large and luminous guest living room to retreat to, with games, books, card table, TV, an internet desk (fast broadband) and a fabulous fireplace. Seven bedrooms are spread between three buildings, one in the attic (watch your head), another on the ground floor. Stylish, rustic, luxurious, they come with excellent beds and drenching showers; four have baths. Restaurants and bars are 1.5kms away in Camariñas. Check out the night skies before you turn in.

My wife and I spent 4 nights in this delightful rural boutique. Our room (Gaviote, Seagull) was tasteful and spotless. Breakfast is a delight. Camariñas town is well located for day trips to the beaches, Finisterre, and the sights of the Costa del Muerte, and contains several good restaurants. The owners are very knowledgeable about the area. Meals other than breakfast are available by prior arrangement (Alberto hijo, son of the owner, is an excellent chef.) While no bar, there is a lounge area with library, television, and computer which is very comfortable for enjoying a BYO beverage.

A beautiful place at the end of the road. Our room was spacious and comfortable with lots of nice touches - there was a kettle and tea and coffee in the room. There were comfortable seats indoors and outside in little courtyards to sit and enjoy the peace and gardens. A great base from which to explore the coast and lighthouses.

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Alberto Cuervo Flores
- "The Faro of Cabo Vilán" points to one of the most difficult stretches for navigation in Europe, erected to 125 meters in height is the oldest electric lighthouse in Spain. The enclave was declared National Interest in 1933 and today is Natural monument.
- "Costa da Morte Natural Site". Most of the coast of Camariñas belongs to the Natura 2000 network. Very close to us, between wild and beautiful beaches you can see endemic and endangered species, both plants and seabirds.
- "The Cemetery of the English" The Coast of Death has witnessed hundreds of shipwrecks, most famous of which was the Royal Navy's "Serpent" battleship, where 172 men were buried under the sand.
- "Chopsticks" Camariñas is famous for its bobbin lace. Since ancient times the history of this town is intimately linked with this art. You can visit the "Museo do Encaixe" and see the "palilleiras" (women who make them)
- Approximately 30-minute drive you can visit the castle of Vimianzo with its handicraft workshops, the monument-tomb of the Neolithic "Dolmen of Dombate" with its cave paintings, and very close to the pre-Roman Celtic settlement "Castro de Borneiro"
- You can make the "Romanesque Route". In a radius of 8 kilometers you can see churches such as Xaviña, S. Mariña, Cereixo, Leis, S. Martiño or Moraime (also Templar monastery and several times attacked by Vikings) all of the XII century.

We stayed at this beautiful little hotel for 5 nights with several other family members. We had never visited this part of Spain before, but this was a perfect base from which to explore northern Galicia. The hotel was a delight and we were thrilled to have discovered it. Alberto is so welcoming, the bedrooms are gorgeous and the breakfast is marvellous - especially the freshly squeezed orange juice and a newly baked cake every morning! The gardens are a pleasure to relax in and there are wonderful local walks immediately surrounding the hotel.
